An inside look at a pair of standout dishes from a popular Chicago establishment

Osteria La Madia

This “urban Italian osteria,” led by chef/owner Jonathan Fox, pays homage to traditional Italian cuisine in Chicago’s bustling River North neighborhood. Already known for a wide-ranging menu designed for sharing, a robust wine list and award-winning fire-roasted pizzas, Osteria La Madia recently added a Sunday brunch definitely worth exploring.

Served in the skillet it was baked in, this decadent treat is moist on the inside and generously topped with a cream cheese and bourbon icing.

Brioche cinnamon roll

To say this childhood favorite draws more than a few jealous looks from nearby tables would be an understatement. Served in the skillet it was baked in, this decadent treat is moist on the inside and generously topped with a cream cheese and bourbon icing. It’s large enough to savor a hearty slice for your brunch dessert and still take home leftovers to enjoy with your morning coffee the next day.

Fennel sausage and egg pizzaOsteria La Madia - pizza (web)

One of nine pizzas offered during brunch, the wife thought this fire-baked gem’s crust was perfectly crispy and the key to it all, and ordinarily I’d agree, but the egg topping and fennel sausage with just the right level of spice did it for me. Also included: caramelized onions, Italian parsley, parmesan and a little garlic. An ideal complement to a regular entrée, especially when sharing with the table.
