Adler After Dark

By Kat Hoffman

Chicago is known as one of the best cities to summer in, and the brutal winds give winter a bad reputation. But that doesn’t mean you have to make a routine of staying in on the weekends burning through your Netflix account. We found a few unique late winter/early spring date spots to go warm up with that special someone.

Adler After Dark
1300 S. Lake Shore Dr.
AdlerPlanetarium.org

The Adler Planetarium hosts an after-hours, 21-plus event on the third Thursday of every month, complete with themed cocktails, movie screenings and prime photo opportunities — the floor-to-ceiling windows represent the perfect spot to watch everyone else freeze on the lakefront while you admire the stars with your star (that was so cheesy).

The Rink at the Park
Park at Wrigley
3637 N. Clark
ParkAtWrigley.com

Go ahead and reenact the sweetest (pun intended) rom-com: Serendipity. Take to the ice to hold hands, create memories and laugh at each other as you topple over. Bonus: All of your photos will have the perfect backdrop of Wrigley Field. Open through Feb. 25, weather permitting.

Movies at The Music Box Theater
3733 N. Southport
MusicBoxTheater.com

With the forecast predicting more bitter temps headed our way, heading to a movie theater — especially one with an iconic history and the character of the Music Box — is always a safe bet. For the guests who are 21 and over, the wine tasting and screening of Our Blood is Wine, a new documentary film that explores the art of wine making in Georgia (the country), looks enticing. Bonus tip: Make a full date out of it by grabbing dinner at Crosby’s Kitchen down the block.

Chocolate, Wine and Spirits Tasting Expo
Plumbers Union Hall
1340 W. Washington
April 21-22

My relationship completely revolves around food. All my boyfriend and I do is go to lunch. While we’re at lunch, we discuss where we’re going to dinner. And I wouldn’t want it any other way. Who says that summer has to be the season for festivals? The best way to spice up the everyday is to try something new like the Chocolate, Wine and Spirits Tasting Expo. A whole room filled with the best sweet treats in all of Chicago? Sign. Me. Up.

One of the most classic rags-to-riches romantic films will be making its pre-Broadway debut for five weeks in Chicago. Thinking about skipping on this one? “Big mistake. Huge.”
