Wishbone - chicken and waffles (web)

By Trent Modglin

Wishbone
3300 N. Lincoln Ave. in Lakeview

Wishbone, a longtime Lakeview staple for breakfast and brunch lovers, has re-established its dinner service Thursday-Sunday, and we couldn’t wait to swing by to check out how they’ve further “tweaked tradition for a healthier take on Southern cuisine.”

Chicken and waffles
This popular Southern specialty is done just right by the folks at Wishbone: crispy buttermilk fried chicken tenders combined with rosetta waffles, chipotle butter and a honey maple glaze. The thin breading is seasoned to perfection, and the chicken remains tender and juicy. We could’ve just eaten a plate full of the chicken and been happy, but the waffles and syrup (with a little kick) truly elevate the experience.Wishbone BBQ platter (web)

BBQ platter
Straight from the smoker, Wishbone offers a choice of pulled pork, smoked brisket, BBQ chicken, cold smoked salmon, smoked pork belly, spicy pork Andouille sausage and St. Louis-style ribs. Choose two options for $15 and three for $17, each coming with mashed potatoes and choice of a side dish. These folks know their way around a BBQ pit, and the pulled pork is a particular highlight.
