Ever wish you had an active local’s advice on how best to enjoy your own city? We have too, so here are some answers

Erin Shovlin
Weber Grill catering manager

How long you’ve lived here: 10 years.

What you like best about Chicago: It’s a big city with an approachable vibe. I love that we have beaches and bike paths, but we are never short of cabs or late-night entertainment.

Best meal you’ve had recently: Zed 451. What a treat! It’s a unique cuisine with an amazing atmosphere. Try their chicken curry samosas or the harvest table options. You can find so many different things to try.

Favorite big-name restaurant: Gibsons.

Favorite “hidden gem” restaurant: Bari Subs (1120 W. Grand). They have the best subs in the city. You can order one and have it for lunch and dinner!

Best sports bar to catch the game: Cubby Bear in Wrigleyville. Such a fun vibe while you take in the game.

A great night out with friends usually includes… a cocktail at the Cityscape Bar in the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza. It’s an incredible view with a low-key atmosphere.

Favorite store or best shopping area: Nordstrom Rack.

The best way to spend a spring Saturday in the city: Take in a game at Wrigley Field, have lunch at Goose Island Brewery and finish it off with a show at Second City. Chicago fun!

One thing every visitor must do here: The architectural boat tour! It’s a must-do with Shoreline Sightseeing. You can pick up the tour at Navy Pier, and then they take you all through the city. The tour guides are so knowledgeable and tell you some great stories that are unique to our city.

Secret Chicago spot: Pequod’s Pizza (2207 N. Clybourn). It’s the most amazing deep-dish pizza you will ever try!

Underrated activity in the city: BBQ near the beach. More visitors and locals should take advantage of the beachfront. We have so much open space.
