The scene: The restaurant, which pays homage to the Great Lakes with a locally sourced American menu, seems both expansive and cozy at the same time. It is split into essentially four, uniquely personalized rooms, tailored to one of the experiences that Harbor is offering — which is a lot. There is the bar/raw bar area, the comfortable fireplace dining area, the exposed pizza cooking area and a private dining charcuterie room; with its centerpiece being a single-slab, live-edge walnut table. The brown, beige and white pastel color palate chicly stretches around the restaurant to give it sort of that upscale summerhouse feel.
Food and drink: The main appeal of Harbor, to me, is the combination of the raw bar and charcuterie selection, which happen to be two of my favorite options anywhere.
The menu offers a chef’s selection of raw oysters, snow crab claw and jumbo shrimp, all of which are fresh enough to make you think we were sitting on the coast. While I typically enjoy shrimp, I do not usually go out of my way to order them. However, the shrimp my girlfriend and I had at Harbor were so juicy and satiating, we could not stop eating them.
Perhaps the most unique item on the menu is their fried chicken-and-pickle pizza. Yes, you read that correctly. Fried chicken and pickles. On a pizza. It’s a combination of two classic flavors that you already know you like, so of course it’s delicious. It is reason alone to go pay a visit to this unique restaurant. Pair any of these items with a drink from their fully stocked bar or robust wine list, and you’re set for a good night out.
We’ll be back because: The atmosphere felt very warm and inviting, and the food was just so good. Specifically, the raw bar. I am a sucker for oysters and ambience, what can I say?
